29th July: North Fen Drove.Common Sorrel seedheads. Hoverfly, Heliophilus pendulus (sometimes known as Footballer Hoverfly because it looks like a footballers jersey!). Very smart beastie! Orange-tail Bumblebee on Globe Thistle. Wild Carrot.

| 28th July: 9 Golden Plovers in field on Haddenham-Witcham Toll Road by New Farm. Some in summer plumage. Also about 20 Lapwings per David Hopkins. |
| 23rd July: 2 Crossbills in Duck Lane, Haddenham at 1.15 today. Thought I heard them yesterday too but couldn't see them. Barbara York. |

21st July: 2 Common Cranes flew SW over North Fen, Haddenham today. Creeping Cinquefoil. Butlers Lane. Great Water Parsnip. Galls Drain by bridge. Rosebay Willowherb. Back Drove. Not so common in Haddenham. Mostly Greater Willowherb seen. PM.

| 19th July: Awful year for Barn Owls and Kestrels on our patch. Just one Barn Owl brood ringed: 2 chicks at Mingay. There are a number of boxes that we haven't checked, and are unlikely to for various reasons. Jake |
| 17th July: The Spotted Flycatchers originally thought to have failed are now busy at the nest bringing in many insects so must now be feeding young. It seems strange that on the 16th they seemed to have deserted the nest being never seen to approach it. The nest was observed by the garden owner all day because windows were being painted but not those by the nest so as to minimise disturbance. Why did the parents not feed on the first day after the eggs had hatched? PM. |
16th July: During a grassland survey (14th July) in Fairchild's Meadow the team came across this Six-spot Burnet Moth on Knapweed. photo Jez Reeve.

14th July: Spotted Flycatcher pair. Eggs have just hatched. My House Martins also feeding young. PM.

11th July: Fen Drove. Butterflies mainly Meadow Browns and Large Skippers. 1 Gatekeeper. Water Plantain on flower in shallow pond. Very small flower. Purple Vetch. Wild Privet, Lady's Bedstraw, Stone Parsley. Meadow Vetchling all out. Common Buzzards and pair Bullfinches. PM, SD & ID.

8th July: Spotted Flycatcher. This site has been used consistently for at least 30 years despite declines elsewhere in East Anglia. It is in a confidential private secluded garden.

8th July: Pellitory of the Wall. Station Road. As name say's it grows on or at the base of old walls and most people wouldn't give it second thought but close up it is quite interesting.

8th July: Selfheal in my grass. Its another of those wild flowers I like to see there and it feeds Bumblebees. Easily mown after flowering and seeding itself for next year.

5th July: North Fen. Back Drove. Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Common Buzzard. Reed Warbler feeding young. Emperor Dragonflies. Gravelpit Drove. Barn Owl, Sedge Warbler. Claytons Bridge. Emperor, 4-spot Chasers and Scarce Chaser Dragonflies. PM & ID. Pictures. An attractive grass but don't know name. White Bryony.

5th July: I don't think that I have ever seen so many Swifts around Aldreth village. I estimate 15+ very low over the village this morning plus 5+ screamers amongst them. Hopefully, some are nesting here. Also, 6+ House Martins and 1 nest. Cheers Simon.
