| 11 November 2015: Barbara York rang in to say that at 12.30 p.m. she encountered a Short-eared Owl flying down the road in front of her in her car. This was along Hillrow Causeway between Hermitage Farm and Earith Marina by the double bend. It got up out of a ditch but went down in another ditch safely. Aldreth – Brambling 1 or 2 over Dam Bank Drove – Peregrine 1 immature, Stonechat 1 pair. SS |
| 10 November 2015: Windy day. Aldreth Road Orchard . Abt 20-30 Fieldfare and 1 Redwing ,5-6 Goldcrests in fir trees. Dambank area. Flock of abt 30 Chaffinches probably foreigners, 3-4 Greenfinches. 10-15 Linnets, 2 Grey Herons, Kingfisher, 3 Green Sandpipers in drains. 4 Grey Partridges and 12 Red legged Partridges. Long Drove. Stonechat. Common Buzzard. 2-3 pairs Kestrels. Aldreth Ponds area. 30-40 Fieldfares and 1-2 Redwings. also 2 Mistle Thrushes which is good because they have not been there for at least 2 years. 8 November 2015: This morning we were surprised to see 2 amorous Muntjacs in our back garden. This was a first and we are not sure how they found their way in. We enjoyed watching them eating windfall apples and crab apples and drinking from the pond. Our delight soon turned to concern when we saw them eating garden plants. This included water lily leaves when they waded into the pond. They were present for over an hour and suddenly they disappeared without us seeing how they managed it. It was a memorable experience to see these deer within a few metres of the house, but I’m not sure that our garden will cope if this becomes a regular event.    |

| 3 November 2015: Went for a walk round Fairchild Meadow and along Hinton Hedges came across a mixed flock of tits wending their way through the tree accompanied by a Goldcrest. Sheila Dickerson (also a Coal Tit in garden) |
| 29 October 2015: The Coal Tit is still whizzing around the local gardens here (Duck Lane) and also a Goldcrest being rather vocal, Tawny Owls are rather vocal and keep waking me up around 1-2 a.m. Barbara York |
| 25 October 2015: Not too much in the garden yesterday but there was a coal tit that came into the garden calling as it moved from garden to garden. They are pretty irregular here and I thought it was a one-off. However, a coal tit appeared in the garden a few minutes ago, again calling and flying from tree-top to tree-top. Have others been seeing coal tits? Barbara York |
| 24 October 2015: HCS stand at Haddenham's "Organisations Fair" where all of the parish's various societies, groups and clubs had a stand to promote their activities. It was in the Arkenstall Centre and was a well attended event . In attendance on the HCS stand were Chris Prescott (Committee Chairman) and Sheila Dickerson (Programme Arranger). It was a chance to sign up new members and for some who had inadvertently fallen behind with subs to catch up and it went well.  |

| 16 October 2015: Hoghill Drove Charm of Goldfinches about 200-250 plus other finches and at least 2 Yellowhammers. 250+ Lapwings. Common Buzzard, Kestrel. Dambank. 300-350 Linnet flock. Little else. North Fen. Another flock of 250-300 Linnets, 30-35 Greenfinches with some Reed Buntings and 1 Corn Bunting coming down to drink. Must be Merlins watching surely but none seen. | 14 October 2015: Duck Lane. A small flock of redwings (40-50) passing over the garden several times this afternoon. Probably the same flock looking for orchards. Barbara York |
| 1 October 2015: I have never seen the fens so bereft of birds as today. We went all along Back Drove in North Fen with only about 10-15 lapwings and two Stock Doves. Smattering of Wood Pigeons. Only the odd Corvid and if its too dry for them it must be dry. Then along Adventurers Drove with 1 Kestrel and 2 House Sparrows. At Claytons Bridge 8 Grey Partridges slipped between potato crops where the tops had been killed off. Along to Graingers Drove and about 25-30 Goldfinches pulling Teasel seeds out. And a single Redleg Partridge that we see there every time. A Common Buzzard sauntered out of a line of trees and went back in. The wind was easterly and dry as was the land, little of which had been ploughed. It was all an eerie sense of emptiness. Was it because the impossible was happening to Long Drove and the County Council had pulled it all up and smashed the wartime concrete into small bits and are going to coat it with something new. Its not even a B road so it is amazing that the money has been found to do it although it certainly needed something done as it was very dangerous and has smashed more than one Post Office van in its time. You know how fast they are given a chance to put their foot down?????? So anybody thinking of coming to help us find the birds that are hiding remember....Long Drove is closed for at least another week if they do it to time! PM&ID |
